Bamana Vintage Mudcloth | 2010
This well-used mudcloth—perfect as a throw, textile art, or even a shawl—is made from indigo resist-dyed cotton cloth and decorated with embroidered motifs in bright colors. This item measures approximately 52" x 35". Textiles such as this piece are traditionally found throughout West Africa, and most specifically among the Dogon and Bamana people, in addition to the Mende, Bamana, Senufo, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, Yoruba, and so forth. The indigo resist-dyed cotton cloth is made of several strips sewn together. The background on this textile is a deep blue indigo, so be careful about possible color transfer onto lighter fabrics. Please note that due to its handmade nature and vintage quality, imperfections are normal; this is part of its special charm and should not be considered a defect.
